Katie's Story: What to expect when donating your hair

Hi Everyone! My name is Katie Johnson, I have donated my hair 5 times now and I am constantly getting asked about the hair donation process, my thought process behind it, where I donated it, how to go about doing it, etc. So, I thought I’d share my experience from when I donated through the Head & Shoulders Nourishing Care Collection Drive with you!
First, I went online and started researching different locations that would allow me to donate. I stumbled upon the H&S Nourishing Care Drive and chose them because their mission really resonated well with me and of the ease of use. All I had to do was type in my zip code, choose a participating salon, select a date and BAM I was ready to donate.
To donate your hair, it needs to be clean and dry. The Nourishing Care Drive also requires 12 inches of hair minimum so be sure that you meet this requirement. Your stylist will then section your hair off into small ponytails all around your head (the number depends on how much hair you have). Then, they will cut straight across right above the rubber band to keep the hair together. Next, I got to snap a couple photos of my hair before they packaged it up and sent it off to be donated!
After the previous steps were all completed, I was taken to a sink where my stylist washed and blowdried my hair. I was then given an iPad where I could scroll through hundreds of images for some haircut inspo (cool, right?). I decided to go for a long bob look and let the stylist get to work! After about 20 minutes she spun me around in the chair to reveal my new do. While the short hair is definitely taking some getting used to, I do really love it.

A few things to keep in mind…
-Hair can be no more than 5% gray
-Hair MUST be clean and dry
-Hair must also be free from dyes or chemicals
-Hair must be 12 inches or longer
Overall it was a wonderful experience and I can't wait to do it again. In the meantime, I'll work on growing 12 inches of hair back ;)
Happy Donating!
Katie
